After a decade of metal where speed and fury were emphasized, Crowbar stepped into the '90s with a sound directly reacting to those ideas. Equally influenced by the robotic approach of Helmet, the razor sharp riffing of Exhorder, and the brutally slow pacing of Melvins, Obedience Thru Suffering shows a band who is not afraid to stand out with a bizarre mix of influences.

UMUR "Obedience Thru Suffering" is the debut full-length studio album by US, New Orleans based sludge metal act Crowbar. The album was released through Grind Core International in September It wasn´t an album that gained them international attention (that would come with the next couple of albums), but it did put them on the map.

This album is Crowbar's first album and damn it's awesome. I like the album because it shows you what your in store for for their future. In 25 years they started with this and built a following based on heaviness. The album broods with heavy thick basslines. Nice and crunchy. Kirks vocals have definitely progressed since their first album/5(12).
