This, to me, is the best album that Savatage released during the 80's. The band started their career on a high note when they released "Sirens" to the masses and they were never really able to equal this album until "Streets: A Rock Opera" came out in the early 90's, .

Savatage was formed in under the Avatar monicker (they also occasionally went by the Metropolis monicker). After releasing a demo and an EP under the Avatar name they changed their name to Savatage in and recorded a demo before being signed to Par Records for the release of their debut full-length studio album "Sirens ()".

What an absolute monster! Much of Savatage's earlier work is top quality metal but not `Hall of the Mountain King". It is better than top shelf; smoldering, smoking, titanic metal and this LP was the reason I bought the earlier ones such as `Power of the Night' and `Sirens' but I almost wish I had bought those first and `HOTNK' third because that is how much the latter had whetted my appetite /5().
